Un-matched paint on the pilot is actually not un-prototypical.  I have seen many photos of E units where it appears that the pilot (and the trucks) have had the paint freshened up.  So if you can get a close match, and maybe a touch shinier, it may be okay.  I guess it also depends on personal preference.

Are you saying that the existing pilot on the most recent run, is wrong for the CB&Q E8's? Does the Intermountain F3 Passenger Pilot have the correct opening for CB&Q E8's? If so, I may go that route, rather than trying to work with BLI to get the parts, do you have a part number that you ordered by any chance?

The issue is going to be matching the paint.
