The biggest problem with the tank car between locos was the drawbars were not designed for the buffeting. So WHY not use an older loco frame and put the tank on it?? And the problem with the natural gas tanks was found out in the 70's when I was still in college but you must remember every time a new technology comes alone they have to reinvent it. The best information we got at the time was that the test was successful in part, but there were some issues that discouraged them from continuing with the experiment. I heard both cost and corrosion were considerations, but that was not from "official" sources.

looking at natural gas as a fuel for trains, to get us off diesel that is probably foreign sourced. http://www.smartplanet.com/blog/bulletin/railway-giant-considers-switch-to-natural-gas/14262?tag=nl.e660&s_cid=e660&ttag=e660 I thought listers might be interested. Rob Mc. Chicago IL __._,_.___
