When my wife and I lived in Montana 1982-1986, BN was running several locomotives fueled by natural gas in a tank car between them. The best information we got at the time was that the test was successful in part, but there were some issues that discouraged them from continuing with the experiment. I heard both cost and corrosion were considerations, but that was not from "official" sources.

looking at natural gas as a fuel for trains, to get us off diesel that is probably foreign sourced. http://www.smartplanet.com/blog/bulletin/railway-giant-considers-switch-to-natural-gas/14262?tag=nl.e660&s_cid=e660&ttag=e660 I thought listers might be interested. Rob Mc. Chicago IL __._,_.___
