My next door neighbor Max Crain had a farm north of Sesser, that raised Red Polled cows, and he showed them at the fairs. My brother worked for him and I remember all the fairs that were around in Southern and Central Illinois, where they were shown.Those cows were a gentle as puppy dogs. I know that some of those cattle went to the fairs by rail and my brother would ride with them. It seems to me most towns of good size had a stock pen, and if they had a fairground, they had a rail spur.
