I know this is Q specific site but something like this can be used by a LOT of people. I have a LOT of friends that do modular model railroading, which means we have very LONG trains on miles of track, and using hand signals would have a practical use and add an extra dimension to the hobby.”
Then there will be yet another reason for being a member of the Burlington Route Historical Society! There will be a Bulletin article on Handsigns. Multi-media may be possible as an accompanying piece but for Dissemination of History print is still more certain given the rapid change in media and format of digital files.
I agree…. the trains are long enough that you need to pass handsigns for operations even on an O Scale peddler freight of 20 cars or HO of 40 cars. I am getting into Live Steam and the handsigns are a must on an outdoor railroad!
Leo Phillips is working with Joe Melhorn to record CB&Q handsigns. He had previously worked with retirees, helping them remember some of the more obscure “non-rule book” signs and the various “dialects” used in different parts of the CB&Q.
We are fortunate in having people like Hol Wagner and Leo who say “Some people play golf, some hunt, I preserve history for recreation".
