Bryan-

The 1956 DZ and KCZ flat-end observation cars weren’t really intended to be used mid-train.  They didn’t get used that way much until the TCZ was reduced to a very short consist before AMTRAK and they subbed for the Parlor Combine and the equipment wasn’t turned.

It may have had something to do with cars tacked onto the train during the night more than possible use as mid-train cars.
