47/48 used whatever was available into St. Louis. Pullmans in coach service were quite common. The ex-C&NW coaches were used before they were repainted (and after). The L&N cars were picked up at St. Louis Union Station as the L&N had several trains into there each day.

That's the one I'm talking about, but I didn't remember the guy's name...I the actual event was long enough ago (50 plus years) that I am absolutely certain about it...The program is recent enough that I couldn't remember the presenters name. 
 
You young guys don't understand this phenomenon....But if you live long enough you will...How about it John M.

Hopefully Jerry Lundeen will respond. He gave a clinic on this train at the spring meet in the Quad Cities a few years ago. My recollection from the clinic is that the Pullmans were used as coaches due to equipment shortages.
