Gordon,

The Plustek scanner comes with a third party software called LaserSoft SilverFast Ai Studio Software. It is software developed in Germany, I believe. It is a good program, but I found it somewhat cumbersome to use. After searching the web, I found another third party software which I like better. It is called Vuescan and is also third party. The Plustek scanner has no specific software of it's own. Both software packages can run a multitude of scanners (the Vuescan software does a fine job of operating my older Epson flatbed 2450 scanner) and both can operate on either a PC or a MAC. Since they are third party products, they are updated regularly to accommodate new technology changes. If I recall correctly, the Nikon Coolscan also uses the LaserSoft SilverFast software.

Bill

Been watching ebay with a friend for a while now. It's crazy. I am familiar with the other scanners too. The other big worry is the software to run them. One of these days a new OS will show up that won't run them! Then what? I know...keep an old machine around and hope it doesn't die!
