dieselpop wrote" "My grandfather had a belt driven hammermill. He made his own feed. Our Ford 8N had ridges down the middle of the front tire until my father learned that other Ford wheels would fit the tractor. After that we used the tires that were taken off the pickup. Never mind that it was sometimes hard to steer in soft ground. It saved the cost of those tractor tires, and he had plenty of boy-hours to use. LOL" The current crop of youngsters don't have a clue about working at whatever task our Dad's and Granddad's had for us. Most parents today do all they can to shield their offspring from anything like real work. Of course exceptions exist where youngsters grow up on family farms, but those are few and far between now days. Hard work and manual labor just isn't done in todays world. It makes our children weak in more than the physical. Character is built with every stroke of a hay-fork, hoe, shovel, pick-axe ,mallet, or hammer. Regrettable in many ways.Personally, did a lot of that sort, but I know I didn't watch as closely as I should have. There are many things other things that I should and could have learned even as he was teaching the good stuff.
