Keith,

Rupert answered your question about when the Q E5s were sold/transferred to the C&S and FW&D, but left open your question about 9950 A & B on the Texas Zephyr in 1941. E5 nos. 9950 A & B (C&S ) and 9980 A & B (FW&D) were built new for those two RRs in 1940 at the same time that the Q's first E5s were built. They were specifically built for the new Texas Zephyr and, like the 9909, carried the train name lettered on the side of the forward part of the "A" unit. The 9909 originally carried Silver Streak Zephyr on it's sides. E5 nos. 9910 A&B, 9911 A&B and 9912 A&B were specifically purchased to power the new Exposition Flyer that replaced the earlier Aristocrat.

Hello all-

"Diesel Locomotive Rosters" by Waynor states that the CB&Q acquired the E5s 9909, 9910A-9912A, 9910B-9912B, 9913, 9914A/B and 9915A/B in 1940 with a note that 9909, 9910A/B, 9911A/B, 9913 and 9914A were sold to the C&S and renumbered 9953, 9951A/B, 9952A/B, 9954 and 9955. There is no indication when this occured. On the website http://www.streamlinerschedules.com, they have the schedule and consist for the Texas Zephyr on February 2, 1941. It shows 9950A, SILVER RACER. and 9950B, SILVER STEED, at the head of the train. Where these E5s sold to C&S to operate the Texas Zephyr starting in August 1940? I am trying to get an accurate consist for the train.

Thanks,
Keith Kempster
