Subject: [CBQ] Newberry Archives/Train orders
On engines train orders were folded and placed behind the air lines for the window wipers overhead of the engineers seat. After the orders were read they were kept there for quick reference and usually left. Often several days or trips worth would accumulate before the roundhouse helper cleaned them out. The vast majority of my Q train order collection was gathered from those spots at Eola roundhouse.
On assigned waycars train orders were kept on a nail driven into the wall at the Condrs desk. The stack could get quite thick before being used to light the stove. There's a photo showing this in the new Q w/c book.
We were still using train orders to light stoves in the 70's. When there were no train orders available toilet paper worked well.
