To all: Waycar 14351 has been restored on the inside as well and it has been a year in the making. We offered our first tours to the public last weekend. The tour is about 20-25 minutes which includes the history of a caboose with explaining the interior as a home for the conductor and brakeman. We continue with the the history of 14351 and inside is framed pictures graciously supplied by Chuck Zeiler. It is wrapped up with a brief history of the CA&E line as it was used by the farm which we hope to expand. Then, people can look around the waycar and ask questions.
This project is in the beginning stages. We hope to one day have a platform built outside the waycar and have depot built to house a train museum. The reason we have been successful so far is a donation from BNSF and a private donor. The projects will continue as we receive more donations. We know we still have to repaint the Burlington route sign on the outside. If anyone knows the exact measurements, we would like to know so it can be repainted.
Thank you Al for your kind comments. The tours run the 2nd and 4th weekends of the month till November. They start on the hour at 11, 12, 1, and 2. The tour is $2.00 for 13 and up and a $1.00 for 5-12, and under 5 free. I am currently the only waycar guide but I will be training new ones. I look forward to seeing everyone coming to view waycar 14351.
Thanks again, Patricia Harris-Wirtz
