Rick,

You've received a number of great responses from others, but here is a little more. The only place that the O line is really close to US 36 is between Macon and Monroe City. In the other areas, it parallels the highway, but is not really visible unless you turn off. On my recent trip across there in March, I saw no train traffic. As others have noted, the Transcon gets most of the traffic including all of the U.P trackage rights trains to Chicago. The UP crews love that run as it is the fastest route out of KC for them. The K line remains fairly active. Most of the train are coal and in Hannibal, NS trains are also fairly frequent. The line between Galesburg and Quincy is readily visible at only certain locations like Macomb. Amtrak does run two trains each way a day over the line. However, if you take US 24 eastbound, it does follow the Quincy line for a ways.

All

I'm going to the NMRA regional, just for the train show, this Saturday. I plan to do some railfanning on the home to Omaha and was thinking about heading up to Hannibal then across MO on US36. Will this route take me along form Q line, it appears that it does, just want to make sure?

Thanks
