One more on the subject of F units. Here's an example of an extreme combination of technology and horsepower. This was a not too uncommon lash-up in the early days of BN operations. To put the smaller, more short-time challenged unit in the lead, was the better of the two methods of running them. When the F45 was the lead unit an Engineer had to constantly monitor speed and throttle position in order to avoid serious thermal damage to the motors on the older engine.
