After the dinkey parade in the morning a switch eng would pull a train up the hill out of the west end of the coach yard and across the west end of the Union Ave Plant where there use to be a double set of puzzle switches to cross the mains and go thru the wash rack.  After washing they would then shove back across and down the lead into the coach yard.
The last train in in the morning and the first out at nite were all single levels and once arriving at Aurora would be pulled by the switch engine to the Hill Yard
The switch foreman would drop off a list at the tower of the work he had to do on the westbound dinkeys and then the trains would arrive at Aurora with the motors cutting off at the west end and head to the roundhouse in the Hill Yard while the switch engine would often double a couple together and then pull them to the hill yard.  So you had light engines and the switch engine going back and fourth along with incoming dinkeys.  The Trainmaster(who took care of Operators and Dispatchers)figured if you could work at Aurora Tower second trick you could be a dispatcher

I agree with that.  Did the cars get pushed through the wash rack daily?  I guess they didn't wye them if they did.

The reason the power cars were on the west end of trains was for ease of switching and services at Aurora and 14th st

Denny,

The car order didn't change at CUS.  When the commuter train was running toward the city (eastbound) the generator car was the last car on far west of the train.  When traveling toward Aurora (westbound), it was the first car behind the locomotive.  One of those weird things...

I have an HO Overland model of the Burlington commute HEP combine #7313 with shadow lining. Very handsome.  However, the configuration of the interior detailing has all the seats facing toward the passenger end, not the HEP end.  Although I presume that the prototype had walk-over seats of some kind, was it policy otherwise  to line these cars with the HEP on the trail end of the train (what few photos in my possession, as well as personal memories say otherwise)?

Thank you-

Denny
