The express company handled a lot of Batham fighting chickens from my home town of Zeigler, IL, to points worldwide, until express service ended, in 1959. Shortly thereafter, it became illegal to ship fighting chickens in interstate commerce. The little St. Louis & Hannibal (interchanged with the Q in Hannibal, MO) had several poultry plants on line. The R.S. Buchannan Co. had plants in Perry and Center, MO that shipped poultry back East as did Kuhne Bros. in Troy, MO. Easterners liked our Missouri chickens.
