You are right about the trains in Germany being quiet. For a while there was an epidemic of GIs getting killed because because they were not used to quiet high speed trains .Laisse-faire attitudes towards railroads, combined with alcohol and inexperience killed quite a few. One location with a lot of incidents prompted the Army to set up a safety class where the troops would be on the platform with their backs turned, and then they would say when they heard the train. They were quite surprised when the train passed at about the same time as they heard it. The other big killer of GIs on German railroads involve the high voltage overhead wires. I have rail loaded a LOT of Army equipment and it is probably the scariest thing I have ever done. GVSTATVS SIMILIS PVLLVS ! Kelley Wright __._,_.___
