Nelson,
You could also hear these on the TCZ and DZ with the EA shovelnose engines. I intend to put one in the EA/E5B lash up that pulled the vista dome TCZ in 49/50 (another combo was the E5A/EAB). Maybe one of the Winton chips and one 567 chip!

Denny's work prompted me to dig a little further into the Winton 201 and 248, and I have attached a document with drawings and photographs that prove Preston Cook is right. The photo on the QSI web page is indeed a 248 or similar marine engine. I sent this information to QSI, so we'll see how they handle the news.
As far as sound decoders is concerned, this revelation doesn't change anything. As others have pointed out, nobody alive today really knows what 9900 sounded like at trackside. I'm still of the opinion that the QSI Winton sound file will be a better representation of 9900 that the EMD 567 sound files previously offered. At least it's different, as I believe the sounds should be between 9900 and the first generation diesels with EMD prime movers.
As an aside, I discovered that Winton 201A diesel engines were used in some first generation switchers, including CB&Q SW 9130-9135 and NW1 9200-9201.
Nelson
