Bob,
I have to agree, which is why I asked the original question. It seems to me that maybe there would be times that feeder cattle went down to Chicago over the C&I, but I'm not sure if you wouldn't just process livestock in Minneapolis if it was ready for slaughter. I'm going to have to dig a little deeper.
Rich

It was next to a huge stockyard and a large Swift packing house. Both shipped-out beef, pork, lamb and other finished products like bacon, sausage (many varities) and by-products. There were also two adjacent smaller packing houses. Remember that there is the big Hormel plant in Austin, MN and a number of plants that also have also been closed in Minnesota and Iowa.
This causes me to think that very few animals were shipped from Mpls/St. Paul to Illinois. Bob S ----- Original Message ----- From: rgortowski@aol.com To: CBQ@yahoogroups.com Sent: Sat, 26 Nov 2011 22:31:01 -0500 (EST) Subject: [CBQ] Stock Cars on the C&I List,
I'm modeling 1950, and I'm wondering if you would see live cattle inbound from Minneapolis/St. Paul heading east to Chicago? Also, would you see NP or GN stock cars heading east on the C&I? I could certainly see empties heading west to get them back to the home roads. Also meat related - the Swift plant in Rochelle received live beef/hogs from where? I appreciate any answers I can get.
