Eric There is a spreadsheet on the BRHS website at http://www.burlingtonroute.com/docs/rosters/motorcars.html showing the numbering and re-numbering of the motor cars. You'll see that cars were grouped by their various designs (e.g. passenger/baggage, baggage/mail cars, etc.) with three digit numbers. In 1930, all the motor cars were renumbered by adding a "9" in front of the number, and subsequent purchases had 9xxx numbers. Some cars were also rebuilt resulting in other number changes.
