Scale Modelers Take Note: This Saturday and Sunday, May 21-22, the Monticello Railway Museum will operate its restored steam locomotive (Southern Railway 401) for the public. On Saturday (ONLY) they hold their first Planes, Trains and Automobiles promotion and the model radio-controlled aircraft field adjacent to the museum will be in full operation (weather permitting), and a variety of antique restored cars from as far away as Chicago will be on display at the museum grounds, some of which will take a drive through nearby Allerton Park that afternoon. One of the participants on Saturday will be Athearn, owned by the Horizon model airplane group that runs the airfield, and they will have two tables at the museum grounds, manned by an Athearn executive. It would be the perfect time to speak directly with Athearn on issues I have seen voiced many times, i.e., "The decals are in the wrong place", "There aren't enough sideposts" or "Why don't they make one of these?", or "The color should be two shades lighter", etc. The Monticello Railway Museum is located about halfway between Champaign and Decatur IL on I-72.
