Thread-topic: [CBQ] proto-2000 Walthers CB & Q GP7
Not sure if this would count as persnickety:

Yes the original the Proto-2000 GP7 had the same gear problem, and the dark
grey color is much too dark. But Dave Lotz had a suggestion back then to mask
out the yellow stripe and below, and airbrush a lighter grey on top of the dark
grey. I tried it and it turned out really nice. The darker grey on the stripes
is not that obvious.

At the same time you should also cut off the headlights and mount new lights
plus Mars lights, replace and move the horns, mount an overnight heater (from Q
Connection), replace the steam generator (the molded on appears much lower than
on photos). You could also replace the chains on the front and rear railing
(but given the slippery type of plastic it could be difficult without replacing
the entire railing. I chose not to do so.)

Regards,
Kai Solvei

I am sure this is old topic but I should very much like to hear from a
persnickety Q modeler who is familiar with the proto-2000 Walthers CB & Q GP7
in "blackbird" scheme. If anyone has an extra one in mint condition with
original box for sale please contact me. Otherwise, I should just like to
establish communications with someone "off list" to inform myself about a
number of details about the locomotive. Particularly interested in whether the
gearing had the same problems as the proto-2000 Q GP30, and the color of that
"gray on top" which looks much too dark to me.
