Greetings & Happy New Year!

Gerald is being somewhat modest regarding his contribution to our calendar this
year. When helping Bud Linroth with the revision of his History of the CB&Q
Illinois Pea Vine Gerald sent in a wonderful RPPC of Lynn, IL.

It is truly a remarkable photo that today's high resolution scanners make
possible to study as historical archaeologists.

In Gerald's words:
"...but NEVER have I seen a vintage view with so much activity. Blown up
bigger & better than when in the Illinois Peavine book I keep seeing details
not noticed before; a treasure trove of info for a modeler.

The other thing is that then & now, people photographed trains, not working
yrds, esp. a small town one which coincidentally had so much varied activity
going on at once along with the unique 'elevator on a hill', derail switch,
A-Frame (unloading granite?), an autobox, 2 locos, a damaged roof on a revenue
car, etc etc. "

One of the things he missed due to the image cropping was the shadow on the
large elevator door facing the camera. The shadow was made by a board wedged to
hold the door shut.

It's a great photo. But without the technology, it is just another photo in the
drawer wasting away, unseen.

Thanks, Gerald.

Regards,

Randy Danniel
