and conversely, Forreston was the Q's gateway to Dubuque which was a major shipping point in the 1800's as wqas woodworking capital. Until the CB&N was constructed, Forreston (& the Mt. Morris branch in general) had a lot more traffic. Abandoment from Mt. Morris to Forreston was a direct result of the Q having its own line to Dubuque and points north with construction of CB&Northern. Morris branch is even more interesting than most think.... ....when it went all the way to Forreston, it was the IC's means of entry for its Iowa lines into Chicago.... over trackage rights on the C&I and CB&Q all the way to the St. Charles Air Line for most of the period until the IC finally completed the Chicago, Madison & Northern. This is an unwritten Chapter in the History of the CB&Q in Illinois and deserves more research!! Charlie Vlk Hey guys let me get home with some bad weather(so I can not work outside ) and I will get on a Mt. Morris article complete with ariel photos Steve in SC [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] ------------------------------------ Yahoo!
