Hi Janet,

I apologize for the slow response to your query. The BRHS is a volunteer
organization and sometimes answering emails does not get a very high
priority.

The source I would recommend is Richard Overton?s books, ?Burlington Route -
A History of the Burlington Lines? and ?Burlington West - A Colonization
History of the Burlington Railroad.? Both of these histories tell of Mr.
Doane?s active involvement in the creation of the college, and the support
that was received from the B&MRR and its investors, but they don?t provide
confirmation that the Burlington used, or did not use the observatory for
official time.

I have forwarded a copy of this email to the CBQ Yahoo Group whose members
are fans of the CB&Q to see if anyone might have additional information.

I will keep you posted on any responses we receive.

Best of luck in your research!

Dave Lotz

Hello,
I am researching our college founder Thomas Doane and his involvement in
building the BMRR through much of Nebraska. As an aside, I would like to
find out if the Burlington RR used our college's Boswell Observatory to keep
track of time along the route. We have an original E. Howard regulator
clock that worked off of our telescope. The RR came through Crete in 1871
and the observatory was built in 1883. Wuld there be records that could
prove this? I know that sometimes there were travel guides or other
publications that would list where one could synchronize time. Any advise
you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks very much.

Janet Jeffries
