Gerald,
I've just been pointed to a list that shows 39 cars were painted in BSB - the
majority. By 1968 there were really "rainbow" combined trains, with the Q
stainless, GN EB, GN BSB, GN Cascade Green, and NP Lowey two-tone!

nly 1 EPB trainset was painted Big Sky Blue; i.e. most remained in the classic
cheme.

pon further review, you can see 4 Great Northern cars. Starting May 11th 1967
he GN started painted passenger cars in the "Big Sky Blue" paint scheme. This
id take a long time and I don't think all of the Empire Builder scheme cars got
epainted. It's certainly possible those four cars (in a row) were still in the
mpire Builder paint scheme on 6/1/68, but it does make one wonder. They
ventually started painting some of these cars in the Cascade Green with the
hite, "Hockey Stick" stripe. (at least one consist of the five)

Steve has a point. Those domes were brand new in 1955. The paint looks pretty
ashed-out for 1958 - 60.

The interesting thing about this picture and the one following is the ratty
ondition of the Empire Builder's paint job, particularly on the lead dome. It
oes look like something out of the late 60's rather than the late 50's.

Based on some of his CRIP photos I'm 99.9% sure "Godfather-
rail's" dates are not always accurate.
