There might be a chance over the years the roster got renumbered
In the spring of '74 I caught a two week relief as the 1st trick C&I
Dispatcher(Aurora to St. Croix) and one late morning a north bound ore empty
going thru Galena Jct. derailed a couple ore cars. The Roundhouse Foreman at
Savanna took a bridge derrick up and rerailed the cars.
And often they would run a Big Hook out to change out the slabs on the concrete
pile trestles due to weight of the slabs.

In the next Zephyr, (which is very close to being finished) we will be covering
Bill’ Glick’s model of the CB&Q’s Industrial Works Pile Driver No. 204613 from
Tichy’s No. 4010 Steam Wrecking Crane kit.
In doing some research on the Industrial Works, I discovered an advertisement
that touts “An Industrial Works Convertible Crane Pile Driver combines the
functions, the safety and the labor saving abilities of a locomotive crane and
a pile driver.” “The leader truss is easily removed and regular boom
substituted for locomotive crane service.”
So, it is highly probable, that the same unit performed both functions.

Yes, that is very possible but 204614 still was not a "derrick" it was a pile
driver.

the wreck show a "wrecking derrick" not 204614.
Then why does the letter from the superintendent of the M.&S.L. state,
"You were in charge of the CB&Q derrick 204614 and assisted in
reconstruction of the bridge between Abingdon and Berwick?" Are you
suggesting that Grandpa's No. 204614 may have been there but it's a
different derrick in the photos? I had never considered that.

Bob
