Here's another interesting sidebar to the Bristol "depot" conversation. Originally the location now known as Bristol,IL was named Bristol Station. In those early days the town of Bristol was what today is the North side of downtown Yorkville north of the river. There was road from Bristol to Bristol station to get to the RR as Bristol didnt have train service until the Ottawa,Oswego and Fox River RR came through much later. Soon Bristol and Yorkville(the south side of the river) merged into what even today is technically named the United City of Yorkville. At some point after what became the Fox River branch of the Q came thru;Bristol station became Bristol and pretty much froze in time until Yorkville built completely around it. Today Bristol is much like Eola in that its totally surronded by a municipality but keeps its own P.O. Wonder if both of these will be closed in some upcoming efficiency move at the postal service ?
