Leo and Steve Thanks for your explanations of "bidding". It's been referred to on many occasions but I never realised how complex the allocation of work could be! You commented that "It was part of having a Union Job with seniority list." Did non-union employees follow the same procedure or was everyone in the union? If you changed your employer, did you lose all seniority?
