In the mood to do some research on a few ex-Burlington GP30's I scanned two BN photos that I had handy, the 2217 and 2218 which happen to be the first two GP30's CB&Q purchased. 1) BN 2217 is the ex-CBQ 940 built 4/62. http://www.locophotos.com/PhotoDetails.php?PhotoID=105822 2) BN 2218 is the ex-CBQ 941 also built 4/62. http://www.locophotos.com/PhotoDetails.php?PhotoID=105823 I did not see either before 1970 but both were eventually assigned to Interbay after the BN merger at which time I saw them on a regular basis. These photos show them in regular service at Seattle's Interbay yard on 8-6-78. It is eight years after the merger and the BN paint is already in pretty bad shape. If I recall the 2218 hit a logging truck north of Everett explaining the repainted but non-striped nose. In the late 1980's both went into a rebuilding program and emerged from MK as GP39M's. BN 2217 to BN GP39M 2823 BN 2218 to BN GP39M 2819 After the BNSF merger they kept the same numbers but were relettered BNSF. As far as I know both are still in BN green. As always, good to see a couple of former Burlington units still in service. Brian Ambrose Renton, WA ------------------------------------ Yahoo!
