Supposedly the CNW subsidiary Wyoming & Northwestern Railway began
building west from Casper in 1904, reached Riverton in 1905 and Lander
in 1906. Also, supposedly Illco to Shobon was abandoned in 1943 and a
connection built from Shobon to Shoshoni to reach the remnant from just
east of Shoshoni to Lander. The Bighorn Divide & Wyoming operates a
remnant of the Wyoming & Northwestern for about a mile east and a mile
west of Shoshoni, the connection from Shoshoni to Shobon and trackage
rights on the BNSF from Bonneville to Lysite. The BDW also operates the
BNSF's line from Lysite to Lost Cabin.
I have it on good authority that the CBQ line through the Wind River
Canyon was completed as a through route from Montana to Orin Junction in
1914.
