Gerald, the latest I have seen (on my infrequent trips to the Midwest) was
40.

In my area, the Santa Fe used nails up through at least 66.

I've seen a date nail collecting book up at the Sacramento Railroad Museum
library that might have more Q information (I remember reading in AREA
Transactions that the Q was represented on the committee that developed tie
dating procedures), but that will have to wait until the next time I'm up
there.
