Banana traffic from the IC to to CB&Q was discussed extensively @ the Annual meet in Dbq 3 yrs ago and indeed was part of the dinner program. Also the IC His. Soc. had a publication of the topic which I believe is still on their back-order available list. The IC's little shed for the Messenger & Clerks use was still standing NE of the IC/Q depot in E. Dubuque into the 1950's. Q accepted a LOT of bananas there not only for distribution to Q territory but to hand over to GN/NP in Twin Cities. E. Dbq was a major exchange site for the reasons mentioned in an earlier post - the IC, CGW & Q mains crossed there (the CGW by trackage rights) and Milw was right across the bridge. IC obviously, as any RR, took mdse as far as it could on its own lines to increase their share of the line haul. The IC carload shed in Dbq is long gone but tracks still present &/or evident.
