Duncan, as others stated gons or flats are typically used to transport auto frames. In early years, no doubt in a boxcar. To model an open load: there would be special racks in the end of the gon if the frames were stood on end, or special clamping devices if laid flat. http://www.mrhobby.com/TruckFlats.html has a few photos of flats with frame loads. http://www.rgspemkt.com/AutoFrameRack.html offers a kit for HO racks, loads in a Tichy gon.
