Broomfield CO: Death: 3 Train Service Injury: 13 Passengers, 2 Railway-Express Messenger, 3 Train Service Chugwater WY: 5 Train Service injured. Walsenburg CO: 21 Injured (2 Train-Service, 1 Railway Post Clerk, 18 Passengers) D&RGW freight, C&S running as passenger. Why? No flag protection, failure properly to check a train register. (See Utah Jct. in big wreck at Boulder.) Essentially the D&RGW from Southern Jct to Walsenburg did not pay any attention that the C&S passenger was running behind them. While switching there was no flagging because they did not note the train register so as far as they saw it there was no train involved. Guess there really was one there.
