Cy,
? Would this car then be next to the units with the freight cars behind? In the
winter how long could it go without steam? Would they yard their transfer or
cut off on the hill to set this car into the depot?
? An interesting move.
?Steve

The westbound Blackhawk (CHI-MSP) would carry a St. Paul sleeper, but would not
drop it in St. Paul. It was carried to Minneaolis, cut off, train wye'd, and
and backed into coach yard north of GN Depot with set-out sleeper now on front
ahead of loco. The yard crew would service, clean and restock the car, and a
returning Q transfer would pick-up car and bring over to St. Paul. Spot car in
SPUD for early PM boarding, then eastbound Blackhawk would back on to it that
evening enroute to Chicago. Remember all Q, GN, NP, or C&NW trains backed into
SPUD except westbound Blackhawk(it wold pull in and back out). Q did not have
any psgr. workers in St. Paul, only in Mpls. A look at track layout at GN Depot
and coach yard will make all thus plain as day. Track diagram of both stations
is in files section of this group site. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,CY.
