I don't know if it was modified as you described, but I observed Silver Leaf
being used at Burlington, IA as what I assumed was DZ-40, on many week nights
during the summer of 1966. Silver Leaf would be tacked onto the tail end of
the Vista Dome Parlor Observation, and would be routinely removed by a switch
engine during the station stop at Burlington.

Apparently several prewar coaches were modified by turning one of the restrooms
into a crew dormitory. These cars were used on the Denver Zephyr as car DZ-40
in the late 60's to carry short-distance passengers and provide dormitory space
for coach attendants. Which cars were modified for this service and when?
