I asked this question a few years ago on here and got a few responses.  I'll
summarize those responses here to hopefully make it easier for those searching
the archives for this later.

For the GP7/9, Detail Associates parts #s 1002 and 1004 are correct.  Walthers
has these for $1 for a pack of 2.  Add in some MV lenses to complete the setup.

For the SD7 and maybe 9, Custom Finishing Pyle Twin Mars Light (CB&Q style)
would be best.  Walthers part #247-256.  Use this with the Details Associates
#1004 along with some MV lenses, and you should be set.

I have seem pictures of models done using the above products and they look
quite good.  I have to get around to doing it myself!  I was told that you need
to remove the old headlight castings and in the process, you will loose the
working headlight.  Richmond Controls was recommended to replace the working
headlights.  I just took a quick look on their website and their products look
pretty interesting.   http://www.richmondcontrols.com/

I am not totally familiar with Details West's products, but it looks like their
parts # HL-114, HL-116, and HL-291 may do the trick.

Sunrise Enterprises used to make a headlight casting that was accurate, part #
H-101, but Walthers no longer lists it and Sunrise's website says they have
ceased producing many of their items due to personal injury to the owner.  You
*may* be able to find it somewhere, but I have never seen it, so can't
personally vouch for the accuracy.

Any corrections to this list are welcome and appreciated.  Something newer may
have come out that I am not aware of.

I hope this helps!

All, I have a few high hood diesels and a couple of the Atlas GP7s coming too.
Looking at the prototype pics, it looks like the lower set of lights are the
actual headlights and the upper set has a clear above red setup. What are the
upper lights for and when would they be used. I'm guessing the red is for when
the train goes into emergency. Does anyone have manufacturer and part number
for the lights? Last question, the GP7s had horns on the left side (engineer?)
on the long hood, later photos show them removed. Were they simply removed or
relocated?

Thanks
