Tom, this is true - which is why I bought a few when I found them
(duplicates) at below $30. There shouldn't be an issue in changing
the name - I have to see if the name plates are different lengths -
something I haven't had the time (or more correctly, inclination) to
check yet.
I don't think BLI has given much thought to such an idea though,
because in the general scheme of things, only a relatively few would
care or be interested. They must have a certain amount of extras,
since there have been a number of cars with two names on them and
(from what I've hear) they've been very good at replacing things. I
also have to check my Lounge Domes seats, as the first runs had the
wrong ones, and you had to contact BLI for replacements (said
replacement, coming quite quickly and without a lot of muss or fuss too).
It seems like there are certain cars "out there" that are less
popular for whatever reason. SILVER BUTTE is one of them. It would
be interesting to see production totals of these things, but likely
only from a geek's point of view as I'd like to see the analysis.
I think one thing that threw a lot of people is the train name plate
being non-removable. Initial reports had it such - like the other
plates - which is why a lot of us bought a disproportionate number of
D&RGW cars. That also factors into the "scarcity" of certain cars (a
SILVI SKY going for $190 on ebay as an example), and it skews the
weighting for the probability of finding the prototypical consist.
