The Rock Island through?Cameron?did indeed host the Chicago-California trains.?
If you are familiar with the ICC Wreck Invedstigation Website you can find an
account of a derailment east of CAmeron on the old Rock Island. The
investigation recounts the travels of the RI train, including the station stop
at Cameron as well as taking water there.? I don't recall the year of the
incident, but it was before 1930 I think.

The Rock Island ran over the old Q from CAmeron to KC just and entered KC the
"wrong way" just like the Q trains did, prior to the Kansas City cutoff being
put in service.

Re:: Cameron Junction photos

Very nice photo. I take it that the view is from the east of the
depot looking west. I see a water tower in the background. Does
anyone know whether that water tower was on the Burlington or was it
on the Rock Island? Also, did the Rock Island come onto the
Burlington trackage east or west of Cameron Junction? Also, was
Cameron Junction a separate depot from the CB & Q. depot in Cameron
during those years? Was it a separate depot from the Rock Island
Depot in Cameron? Did both railroads jointly own this station?

Please correct me if I am wrong but I am under the impression that
Rock Island passenger trains fromn Chicago to Kansas City and beyond
used Burlington trackage from Cameron Junction to somewhere near
Excelsior Springs. If so, then that CB&Q line would have hosted the
Rock Island-Southern Pacific passenger trains between Chicago and
Los Angeles, e.g., The Golden State Ltd. Anyone know the details?

For a view of the Cameron Junction Depot from the West looking east
consult the photo found at www.missouridepots.com .
