I have a first edition Huckleberry Finn. That is the way it is spelled
in the book. I love the illustrations
in it. I read it first time when I was a boy of nine years. It came to
me from my dad who got it fromMy great Uncle John Taylor of Tyler,
Texas. Uncle John was Cherokee and a great story teller. He was an
articulate and well read man. His high cheekbones and ruddy complexion
told the tale of his heritage and he brooked no fool. Dad said he had
quite a temper, but as he was an older gentleman when I knew him as a
boy I never saw that side. He was my favorite relative. He passed on
when I was eleven.
He was 94. Dad said he had worked on a couple of texas railroads, but I
never knew which ones. I have the Mantle clock that was his and said to
have come from the Railroad station in Tyler. Again I have no way to
confirm. The clock is an Ithaca Day Date Chronometer. Lovely chimes and
keeps very accurate time.
Probably too much information.
