Be careful.... I don't know how much iron content remains in the slag, but if 
any it could cause problems getting into your motors.   I would use the 
limestone and
color it to the right rustiness.

PS  I think we discussed the isolated CB&Q property down at the Steel Mills a 
couple of years ago.  It was a separately incorporated railroad and shows up in 
the 
Documentary History..  AFAIK ther main purpose of the yard was to gather cars 
of slag for use in ballast.
