Hi Tom,
During the great Mississippi flood of 1965, the Q between LaCrosse
and St Paul, went under first and its trains ran on the Milwaukee
until it also went under and then both roads used the CNW and Soo
Line for detour routes. When waters receded the Milw was back in
service sooner and the Q trains detoured on the Milwaukee until its
route was back in service.
Does someone know which of the river lines went out first between
Savanna and Lax in 1965? I know the Milw Iowa division laid new
track atop the Q diamond at Savanna tower to keep running a while longer.
