Isn't removal of lettering on Q Budd Cars a no-brainer????
1. The lettering is on a separate panel (on the BLI cars, the car name, car
ownership plates are actually removable and BLI tooled
several sizes to match the prototype). The CALIFORNIA ZEPHYR train name plate
is the same size as the BURLINGTON plate.
2. As I remember them in service, the finish on the plates did not match the
corrugated or flat stainless steel panels.
So, if you carefully mask off the plate you want to change (with low-tack
painters tape or detacted masking tape) you can go at the
lettering with any of your favorite paint removal techniques (from air blasting
with grit to Diosol to E-Z-Liftoff to brake fluid). Repaint
the plate if necessary with Testor's Chrome or whatever Silver paint you want.
Decal with MicroScale Zephyr lettering or make your
own decals.
For non-CZ cars you'll have to patch the car ownership plate mounting lugs and
try to match the plated surface on the plugs.
The Baggage cars (Silver Treasure, Argo, Olympus) and the Diners are accurate
or very close for TCZ and DZ.
