While it?s been a while since I explored that area, these are the
things I
suggest:
Burlington / West Burlington
The Burlington Welcome Center at the Port of Burlington ? a nice display
regarding the RR in Burlington
?the? bridge over the Mississippi
Union Depot on Main Street
Trying to find the Burlington Junction?s interesting locomotives
I suggest eating at ?Big Muddy?s? the old Roick Island freight house under
the Hwy. 34 bridge at the north end of Front Street
A drive down Snake Alley, Ripley?s ?Crookedest Street in the World? ? not RR
related, but fun ? the folks at the Welcome Center can direct you there.
What?s left of the WB shop buildings
Mt. Pleasant
Q Depot ? north of US34
South edge of town in MacMillan Park (Old Thresher?s Grounds)
there are two wooden Q Depots
Narrow gauge railroad around park ? maintenance facilities might
be open
Fairfield
Brick Q Depot north of US34
Rail Merchants International equipment at old CRI&P depot
Ottumwa
Stone Q Depot north of US34
Chariton
Q Depot remains?
Mainline crosses UP/nee C&NW/ nee CRI&P Short line
Albia
Brick Q Depot north of US34
East & Westbound main split east of town here and join again
west of town
Osceola
Brick Q Depot north of US34
Remnants of Q branch line to Des Moines

I will be driving to the Creston,IA BRHS Spring meet in 2 weeks. On
Thurs 04/12, the drive will be after dark from Chicago area to
Princeton, IL. On Friday 04/13 during daylight, the drive will be
along US-34 to Burlington and on to Creston.
Could those of you familiar with US-34 in Iowa share your favorite Q-
related sights in these towns?
Thanks in advance,
Bill
