Classic railroad movie THE TRAIN is on Turner Classic Movies channel tonight
at 7:00...Burt Lancaster stars. Excellent steam action with all European
left hand drive engines.
Spectacular wreck about 2/3 through the movie...former Train and engine
service employees ie Karl and Leo will appreciate the series of "moves" setting
up the arrangement for the wreck. It's kind of a "three way drop".
My 12 year old grandson...who has a slight interest (read obsession) with
trains comes over and our VHS copy is the first thing he grabs and goes
immediately to the wreck scene..would you believe I usually watch it with him.
Also GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH (1952) was on last Friday night...I have only
seen that one 27 times...or something like that. Saw it first time summer
1952 and 6 more times in the first year or so.
Only frustrating feature of GREATEST SHOW is you have to sit through 2 and
1/4 hours of circus stuff to get to the spectacular wreck scene...If you
haven't seen this one it's worth the wait...It's totally authentic with fusee
being
properly lit.....steam locomotive (ACL) engineer properly
answering...flagman getting off rear end after being properly "whistled
out"...--------------
o-o-o.
Comments by the players regarding first and second sections of the train
authenticated by appropriate green classification signals on the engine of the
first section which stopped by the "villain" is rear ended by the second
section (no signals) account flagman being hit over the head by the villain's
assistant before he can get off with his flagging kit.
Pete..........living in the days when they all didn't look alike.
