In times gone by we've talked about the "step off'" at Aurora depot for the
"Northern and Mainline
Passenger pool trainmen" . This was codified in the local agreements as ok.
There was another step off at Aurora in the frt. pool that was a very discreet
operation. Crews would head east out of Savanna in the middle of the night
and talk to each other in Savanna yard office and say" if we pass Aurora Depot
before 'x' ......... This would occur on Sat. and Sunday morning when the
first westbound dinky left CUS an hour later than the rest of the week and
then ran on a two hour gap the rest of the day.
What do you suppose the plan was ? Hint, it was very close to something
that's authorized today in the rules and work agreements but back then it was
frowned upon.
