There were many,many fast engineers. What set someone apart was speed and 
skill to keep a train together,smooth ride, correct spottting and keeping 
everyone safe.Of course personality was a big part too.
Steve referenced one of them in his email and I think a few years back we had 
quite a discussion on this list about him. 
The name JM Owens in the email address caught my eye as that name has a 
history to it when talking about engineers.
