in the last century, but disappeared in the 30's. I believe it was invention
of nylon that killed the silk industry. The trains did travel under guard,
and ran on fast schedules. I think the book on the Great Northern by Woods
has info on the Silk Trains. Do some surfing on the net, look for silk
trains, along with the GN, CR, etc.
