Rick-
On p. 34 of Corbin & Kerka's Steam Locomotives of the Burlington Route, there's
a picture,
dated 1933, showing CB&Q 417 backing into Atchison with a boxcar, which I'm
guessing
is part of a mixed train. The Atcheson run was the last venue for a 4-4-0 on
the
Burlington (other than the exhibition engine). Most of the Americans were
assigned to
light runs like this and were retired in the late 1920s when gas electrics
started coming in.
Why why such a light, archaic engine lasted so long on this particular run is
an interesting
question.
